At Powerhouse Castle Hill, we had the privilege of collaborating with both the Powerhouse team and project architects Lahznimmo to deliver bespoke bench workstations and library tables that prioritised functionality, versatility, and aesthetic appeal. This project brought together the talents of prolific Australian furniture designer Adam Goodrum and the innovative adaptability of his Chameleon table system, designed for Australian brand NAU.
Project: Chamelon Workstations at Powerhouse Castle Hill
The designer behind the vision, Adam Goodrum, is one of Australia’s most awarded furniture designers, known for his ability to merge creativity with practicality. With a career that spans international collaborations for brands such as Alessi and Veuve Clicquot, Adam’s work is also celebrated closer to home, with pieces held in permanent collections at the National Gallery of Victoria and the Powerhouse Museum. For Powerhouse Castle Hill, Adam’s Chameleon table system was the ideal choice. Designed to be adaptable, reusable, and reconfigurable, Chameleon offers unparalleled flexibility to meet evolving needs—a perfect fit for a project as forward-thinking as this one.
The Chameleon system stands out for its innovative rotating leg bracket, which allows tables to be configured to any shape, length, or pivot. Available in three heights, the system is designed for adaptability across a wide range of applications. For Powerhouse Castle Hill, two of these heights were selected:
- 730mm sitting height for library tables and bench workstations.
- 900mm standing height for collaborative bench workstations.
These tables were fitted with integrated power and data solutions, along with sleek monitor arms by Adtec, creating workstations that are both functional and in harmony with the award-winning building’s minimalist design.
In the library, the Chameleon tables were supplied with castors, allowing them to be easily moved and aligned to create larger tables when needed. This level of versatility ensures the space can adapt to changing demands over time. One of the standout features of the Chameleon system is its ability to be disassembled and reconfigured for future use, aligning with the principles of sustainability and longevity in design.
